This site is maintained by me, Andrew Thompson, a freelance writer in Philadelphia. Mostly it is a collection of works written in other sources that I have formatted to fit the site, but I occasionally publish essays that have no better outlet.

Currently, I am a frequent contributor to Philadelphia City Paper, and I write the urban economics column Metronomics for Next American City.

If you are a businessman with a plan to make me rich, please write to the email address listed above.

I hail from Palo Alto, California, the land of tech giants and high-scoring children. I was neither an entrepreneur nor an aspirant Stanford student, so I came to Philadelphia to attend Temple University. I decided I liked it here and stayed, a decision I later learned the city has been trying to get others to make for some time.

I originally posted on babiesinspace.wordpress.com but, looking at the sites of my colleagues, decided that potential employers wouldn’t appreciate such a whimsical title. The phrase “Babies in Space” comes from my infancy, when my dad would throw me up in the air, risking my life and limb, while gleefully crying “Babies in Space!” It was needlessly dangerous.

Please see the pages listed above for my portfolio and resume.
